WELCOME FROM ARCHBISOP STEPHEN CARDINAL BRISLIN
It is with joy and gratitude that I welcome you to the Cathedral of Christ the King.
This year we celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Cathedral’s consecration, a milestone in the life of the Catholic community of Johannesburg. Since its foundation, the Cathedral has stood as the heart of our Archdiocese—a place of worship, gathering, and mission. Here generations of faithful have come together to encounter Christ, to be nourished by the sacraments, and to grow in service to one another.
As we mark this anniversary, we also recall with thanksgiving the historic visit of Pope Saint John Paul II to our Cathedral thirty years ago—a reminder of our mission to be a sign of unity, hope, and reconciliation.
May this Cathedral continue to be a spiritual home for all who enter its doors, a place where the Gospel is proclaimed, the sacraments are celebrated, and charity is lived.
With prayerful best wishes,
Stephen Cardinal Brislin
